The Importance of Breakfast

Everyone has heard at one point or another that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That is not just a popular opinion it is actually a fact. Eating breakfast is essential because the brain and body needs to refuel in order to function at full capacity. The problem with breakfast is that, for many, it is an inconvenience. Having to be up an active for the first few hours of each day without any food in your system is unhealthy and unproductive. For students at Holderness, myself included, not only is it a huge inconvenience to eat breakfast, but in the winter especially it can be difficult to even make it to lunch. With such a busy schedule it is too easy to cut out things like meals, typically breakfast and lunch. Not eating breakfast is bad enough, but when lunch also gets cut from the daily schedule, it is unhealthy, uncomfortable, and limiting. .
Studies show that by eating breakfast directly correlates with a more positive academic performance. Eating breakfast also increases a persons diet quality and body weight. In terms of students at School and other schools a like, eating breakfast can boost academic performance and success, simply because it enhances the ability to comprehend and process knowledge. It also positively affects behavior a students academic behavior in the sense that it increases the likeliness for class participation and academic understanding. In other words, students who eat breakfast are more likely to engage in the task at hand in the classroom rather than sit there and count down the minutes until the bell rings. This is because when you eat breakfast, the body is replenished with sugars, proteins, and fats, nutrients that the body is running low on after many hours of sleep. When your body is running low on these nutrients it is running low on energy, and when your body is running low on energy it is hard to function! Just like Mr. Ford says at the first family style dinners each year, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!".
