Early American Literature Review

For example, after Paine talks about revelations he goes on to say, "When Moses told the Children of Israel that he received the two tables of the commandments from the hand of God, they were not obliged to believe him, because they had no other authority for it than his telling them so; They contain some good moral precepts such as any man qualified to be a lawgiver or a legislator could produce himself, without having recourse to supernatural intervention"
From this I gathered that God gave the people the information that he thought they needed to know in order to survive. From what we know now, the Ten Commandments are the only things that came directly from directly from God in a tangible form. When looking at this from a deist stand point God created us as intelligent people that were competent enough to live and make decisions on their own. If God was overseeing and micromanaging every thought we have, there would be essentially be no need for the Ten Commandments because God would already know what we are going to do next and would have pre-programmed us with this information. Why would he plan our life decisions from the beginning then later have to give us the Ten Commandments in order to tell us what is right from wrong? I feel like because God wrote the Ten Commandments and shared it with his people, he then allowed for everyone to gain the knowledge that they did not previously have, which will influence all of their decisions from that point on because they have been exposed to the expectations of God and they now know what is right and wrong. .
On a different note, I also was very interested in the text, "Red Jacket Defends Native American Religion". I really enjoyed this viewpoint it was a refreshing interpretation that was very enlightening.
