Aphorism

"If you pray for rain, don't be surprised if you're struck by lightning." This aphorism was said by Damien Cannon. It means that when you wish for something, you shouldn't be upset when the bad things associated with it come, and I think it relates well to high school. People often wish they had things, and when they get them they realize that there are downsides that they hadn't seen before. .
Many high school students get overwhelmed with work and wish their teachers did not give work that was so hard. Then they coast during that class but do not learn as much as expected. During the next school year, those students would be far behind the other people who took the class also. So even though having the easy class may have been nice while it lasted, it had a bad consequence people wouldn't see coming unless they had thought about it. People would not wish for that if they knew about the down side of what they were wishing for.
Also, in high school people are not always happy with their friends. Sometimes someone wants popular friend. But in the process of trying to make friends for the wrong reasons, the friends he had had before would not like having to take a back seat so that he could become friends with other people instead. He would probably end up losing the friends he had, so instead of having some friends he liked but who were not very popular, he would be left without friends, just some people he had tried to befriend that he hardly knew. This is like the aphorism above because he is praying for one thing, but in trying to make it happen there is a consequence he had never thought about. .
