My Experiences as a Writer

When I was in middle school, I took the junior high version of an english class called Communications. My teacher, Mr. Caves, was probably one of the coolest and most respectable old dudes I've ever met in my life. What I remember most distinctly about him is that he loved the outdoors and his classroom was filled with tiny rock fountains with running water, green plants and paintings of pine trees and forest animals. Before Christmas break, he would decorate his room with mounds of white cotton and hang paper snowflakes from the ceiling to make it look like it had just snowed in there. My friends and I annoyingly referred to him as our favorite grandpa and he got a kick out of it. Anyways, despite being chill as hell, Mr. Caves loved to assign the longest, most boring reading assignments out of our Robert Frost poem books. He would make us memorize "The Road Not Taken" and "Stopping by the Woods on a snowy Evening", then make us recall both poems word for word in front of the class and we would get points taken off for reciting even one word incorrectly. Back then, I almost hated Caves for making us memorize those stupid poems and then stand up in front of my fellow classmates filled to the brim with nerve-racking anxiety to recite the passages in a shaky voice, "two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both, And be one traveler, long I stood, And looked down one as far as I could, To where it bent in the undergrowth" Even though I did hate these assignments, I found myself trying to write my own poems in my spare time and sort of unconsciously being inspired by the poems I was forced to memorize in class. When I became a freshman in high school, my favorite middle school teacher died of a heart attack. In his honor, I bought a Robert Frost poem book that I don't mind reading every once in a while to remind me of him. Throughout high school, I began writing poems more and more and decided to start posting my ideas online.
