First aired in 2005 as a half an hour show, it then further increased to an hour in duration and broadcast 'live' on air since (Maori Television Service, 2014). The show is hosted by Jenny-may Coffin, Glen Osborne (aka Oz), Liam Messam and three other guest presenters: Maria Tutaia of the Silver Fern, former Kiwi and Warriors fullback player- Kevin Locke and surfer, actor, musician Fran Kora (Maori Television Service, 2014). Code series came back with its season ten that ran until August this year and experienced a sponsorship from UNITEC Institution (Unitec, 2014). The episode consisted of the talks between presenters and celebrity guests Ben Tamiefuna, bodybuilding model Steve Cook and bikini model Amanda Latona. Special stories of the female netball Silver Fern team, Kevin Locke's special meeting with his special fan Mikaera Tamihere and so on were covered. The show ended with an entertaining dance of Osborne and his wife. .
Despite the fact that both shows are free-to-air channels, however, one belongs to a private media company (The Crowd Goes Wild owned by Sky TV) and the other belongs to the government. The similarities and differences between them will be discussed so that a deeper understanding on each show's success will be established. .
First to mention, although there are some similarities between them, each show still targets their main audiences differently. It is clear that both shows mainly target on sport fans or anyone who are interested in sports. In addition, they both mainly target on New Zealanders as the two are locally made and aired in New Zealand specifically. Nonetheless, it can be seen that the main audiences which The Crowd Goes Wild targets on are Kiwi males in their twenties to fifties, like D.I.Y jobs and are relatively stable income earners with family and children at home. Through the episode aired on the 10th July, it can be seen that most of the show's coverage were news about male sports (e.
