An Overview of Gun Violence in America

In recent years, a great deal of attention has been centered on gun violence. There has been debate over whether gun laws are strict enough and what else can be done to reduce such acts from occurring. With more lives being affected on a regular basis, more concerns arise as to how people can live safe lives when guns are being used in increasing numbers. The violent culture of the United States, along with easy access to possession of guns and loose background checks, has contributed a lot to gun violence; hence, authorities should be concerned of these factors and find solutions in order to decrease gun violence in the country.
We have to accept the fact that pop culture contains violent concepts that promote gun violence among teenagers. Children nowadays are prone to violence due to the under excessive exposure of video games and movies. Most of the parents are busy with their jobs, hence, kids are easily being neglected because their parents don't have enough time to teach and guide them. When children are not being taught and guided enough, children will find it harder to differentiate right from wrong. In the article ''Guns don't kill people – our sons do'', Farrell claims that the American movies and video games are becoming more violent (2013). He continues to explain that it may lead people to mental illness because playing too many games can easily affect a person's mind (2013). Teenagers will be easily influenced especially those with an immature mindset. If an individual is unable to differentiate the real world and a game together, there are high chances that they might implement their violence into the real world. In certain games, killing people is to complete the mission's requirement but in real life, shooting people cannot be undone. In addition, Dziewanski (2011) points out that mainly media outlets such as video games, movies, and music associated with guns are targeted towards teenage males.
