Man-Made Environmental Issues

Thus increased acidity in the oceanic waters has the potential of changing the future genetic adaptation of this species leading to the decline of the commercial value of his species. The research article shows how acidification is driving individual and population level changes of the marine species.
             Environmental Impacts of Dams.
The construction of dams is common in many countries and it they are used to reserve water for irrigation purposes as well as the generation of hydropower. However, the construction of dams has had effects of destroying the ecological balance by obstructing rivers and completely changing their course. Rivers are powerful engines of soil erosion and over time, they can wear down mountains, change the shape of landscapes, and increase acidity to the oceans due to the transportation of sediments along the way. Water stored in dams will be released to flow during the low flow of rivers, since the water at the bottom of the reservoir is cool in temperature, the sediments will settle at the bottom. Hence, the water released would be sediment starved, and so the erosion and down cutting will be common (Vidal).
Change of river courses has an effect on the fish populations, i.e. the riparian vegetation which the fish feed on will be disrupted. The riverside vegetation depends on the variations of flow of the stream for replenishment of soil moisture and to disperse seeds to ensure seed survival. The disruptions of the rivers affect the growth of this vegetation which in turn affect the fish due to loss of habitat. Also, apart from endangering the fish species, dams have a social effect to humans. Due to their slow movement, dams, especially in tropical areas, are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, flies, and snails which spread diseases to humans around the ecosystem. Due to the changing of river directions, the effects might extend beyond effects on fish to include forced relation of human populations and extended deforestation due to new river roads.
