My Opinion on Diversity

a word that means many different things to many different people. But to me, diversity is exactly that, being different. To me, being different never was, never is, and never will be a bad thing. Diversity means different religion, different thoughts, and different ways of life, and yes, different skin colors. But to me, these differences in many people make me respect them for who they are. To others, these differences are excuses to tease, discriminate, and hate. It makes no sense to me that some people discriminate others for being different, diverse. To the people being discriminated, the haters are diverse, or different, too. Diversity affects many people's lives in many ways, including mine. I'm Indian-American. Both of my parents were born and raised in India. I was born here, in America. America is known to many as the big "melting pot". I am an example of diversity. I am different from a large number or people, especially at school. Some people respect this, while others make it an excuse to discriminate. But I can't do anything about what people say, except tell them what I really am. I can't make them believe me, that is up to them. Being diverse, more different, may get you some disrespect, but you just have to learn how to deal with it. I did.
My community, where I eat, sleep, and contribute to. It's where I live my life. I see a lot of diversity in my community. My community encompasses my school, home, and neighborhood. I think I experience the most diversity in school though. My school is a melting pot of Hispanics, African-Americans, Asians, Caucasians, and various European descents. There are too many diversities to count. But it doesn't make us fight, not most of us at least. There are a few who do. But to me, these people are ignorant. Why? Because they are hating someone for being different, but ignoring the fact that they are different from the victim of discrimination. No one can help being diverse.
