Legalization of Marijuana

" It is apparent that alcohol's effects on our body can be more harmful than those of marijuana, yet we continue to view marijuana as the more dangerous substance.
The danger of alcohol to the public far outweighs that of marijuana. Driving while under the influence of marijuana has not ever been discussed as a serious topic. It is known that driving while high is not nearly as dangerous as drunk driving, yet alcohol is legal and marijuana is illegal. "A comprehensive 1992 study by the NHTSA found that marijuana is rarely involved in driving accidents, except when combined with alcohol. It concluded that "the THC-only drivers had an [accident] responsibility rate below that of the drug free drivers. While the difference was not statistically significant, there was no indication that cannabis by itself was a cause of fatal crashes." Here is strong evidence that marijuana is significantly less dangerous than alcohol as far as driving is concerned. Driving drunk is one of the leading causes of death in automobile accidents, marijuana is not even among the top. .
Cigarettes also have a more negative effect on the body than marijuana. Cigarettes ingredients are significantly more harmful to the body than what marijuana is comprised of. "The bud of marijuana contains just 33% of the tar that is contained in cigarettes. Cannabis, unlike cigarettes does not cause any narrowing of the small airways passages in the lungs. Not one case of lung cancer has been linked to marijuana" The effects of cigarettes are a significant amount more severe to the health of a human being than the effects of marijuana. Marijuana does not contain the addictive ingredients that cigarettes contain. Nicotine, a chemical not in marijuana, is the chemical that causes the addictive nature that cigarettes possess. "The psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, THC, has been accused of causing brain and genetic damage, but these studies have all been disproved.
