The Benefits of Homeschooling

 

             The primary purpose of school is education. Who is a better motivator to a child than his/her parents, the same people who have taught the child to walk and talk? All children should be homeschooled through the 8th grade for a variety of reasons. Parents can plan their learning program to accommodate the child's individual interests, since they have a unique understanding of their child. Children are able to grasp subjects more thoroughly with one-on-one attention, and are more likely to ask questions of someone he/she trusts, in an environment free from distraction and peer pressure. Families are able to integrate their children's education into family-interest activities, motivating the child to learn while doing something they enjoy. Whether destructive or productive, friends have a great influence on children, as they tend to look to their peers for guidance and approval. Children who are homeschooled enjoy freedom from bullying and teasing and from pressure to conform to whatever is currently popular. Home schooling is an extension of basic skills, such as speaking, and should be carried out through the 8th grade, when children need to prepare for college. .
             However, before college, homeschooling enables families to integrate their children's education into family-interest activities. What better motivation for a child to learn to read better or to do math better than if acquiring that skill will enable the child to pursue some hobby or interest? Interesting trips and activities in support of the children's education will encourage the child to learn or to discover new interests. Homeschooling allows education to be integrated with family activities, resulting in the schedule is more efficient and flexible, and more of the child's interests can be explored (Moore).
             Parents have a unique understanding of their children and can plan their learning program to accommodate individual interests.
