Should Physician-Assisted Suicide be Allowed?

The third type is Active euthanasia, and it is when a person intentionally kills another person to prevent him or her from suffering and going through anguish. The last type of euthanasia is passive euthanasia. There are two definitions of passive euthanasia. One of them is when the patient requests to have his or her medication removed and his or her medical treatments canceled. This does not necessarily cause the patient's death. Another definition is when someone consciously causes the death of a person by preventing him from eating food and drinking water. In brief, there are four types of euthanasia, which eventually lead to the same thing, which is death.
In this century there have been many groups formed that are for and against euthanasia, but since I am in favor of euthanasia I will start with why people are in favor of it. I believe that if a person is in extreme pain and does not wish to continue living, he or she has the right to end his or her life with or without assistance. These people are saying that they feel they do not deserve to suffer. People who are for euthanasia ground their position in two basic principles: self-determination and mercy, or compassion. .
The first basic principle is Self-Determination that is the right of individuals to control and dictate the course of their own lives. It assumes autonomy and the freedom to be self-governing with respect to choices concerning the self and one's own well-being. (Scherer and Simon 15). What this means is that we have to be capable and free to choose our own final exit and destination. Individuals have a right to make important decisions about their lives and lifestyle in pursuit of what they deem to be the good life, as long as they do not threaten, injure, or harm others. The self-determination process permits a patient with a terminal illness to die in a dignified manner, it also prevents extended suffering from a horrible pain, and serves to psychologically relieve for the mind of the individual, who knows that the option of a painless death is available.
