The Lord of the Rings- The Quest

Strider is the man that will aid the young hobbits in this task and will also help them along the path to the rest of their Quest. Even though they avoided the Black Riders the first time they encounter them again later on. It is more serious this time and even though Strider tries his best to fight them off they get to Frodo and stab him. Strider then brings Frodo to Elrond and he heals his wound. At the council of Elrond they decide that someone must act as the ring barer and bring the ring to the place of its destruction. Frodo, the courageous little hobbit that he is, volunteers to be the one to perform this task and he and his fellowship set off on their journey. .
"At last with an effort he spoke, and wondered to hear his own words, as if some other will was using his small voice. "I will take the Ring," he said, "though I do not know the way." Elrond raised his eyes and looked at him "If I understand alright all that I have heard," he said, "I think that this task is appointed for you, Frodo; and that if you do not find a way, no one will. This is the hour of the Shire-folk, when they arise from their quiet fields to shake the towers and the councils of the Great-" (Lord of the Rings 355).
This event ends the preliminary journeys of Frodo and the other hobbits. In experiencing these minor adventures the characters complete the first stage of the classic quest and begin the second stage of the quest, the crucial struggle and the battle of a hero.
The crucial struggle usually involves a battle where the hero or their foe dies. Because of the fact that the Lord of the Rings is a trilogy, Frodo does not actually go through his own crucial struggle in this book but the book does have an important crucial struggle that acts as the second stage in the quest, where a subsequent hero meets his "end". Following the Council of Elrond the fellowship realizes that they must travel though the Mines of Moria to get to their desired destination.
