Analysis

Advertisers will do whatever they can to get you to buy their product, depending on what their advertising for and who the intended audience is. In this particular ad we are dealing with truck tires. The ad comes from a magazine called Off Road Adventures. The magazine keeps you up to date on all the latest news, technology, and of course adventures in the sport of off roading. The targeted audience for this magazine is male. This is because it is a male dominated sport. You don't see to many women out there in jacked up trucks. The ad chosen is BFGoodrich truck tires. BFGoodrich uses scary colors, a rugged terrain setting, and a metaphorical message to show you that these monsters will get you through everything, even the scariest of times.
In this ad we have a large truck with large tires driving over a rough terrain. The earth looks like it is opening up. There is what seems to be lava coming out of the ground where the truck is driving over. There is also a dirt bike in the background jumping through the air. It looks like the setting is in a very mountains region. At the top of the page the ad reads "Put some monsters under your bed". This is the basic layout of the ad.
The whole theme of this ad is making the tires out to be monsters that can go through anything. You can see this by the colors they chose. The whole ad is a very dark bluish grey including the truck. This is because dark colors are associated with scary things like a monster would be. Also the bright neon green used for the lava and the message gives the viewer a sort of cartoon-like monster feel. Like the cartoons you used to watch on Saturday mornings when you were a kid. For example, the cartoon Ghostbusters had a monster called slimer. The color of slimer is almost identical to the neon green we have here. The neon green lava coming out of the ground that the truck is driving over is reflecting off the tires putting emphasis on them making them stick out more.
