Through out the years technology has made our lives easier in more ways then one. First the telephone destroyed the necessity of letters to casually communicate between friends. Now e-mail and the internet are doing the same to the telephone but enabling us to talk to more people at once. Also, the internet is a lot cheaper than the telephone. However, is this beneficial to the social skills of people today or has e-mail hurt it? This essay will establish how e-mail is beneficial to the social skills of people and has not hurt it, but instead enables people to be open to a diverse group of people and things. .
E-mail enables you to communicate with people all around the world fast and efficiently. This allows you to meet knew people and gives you a broad perspective of the world. If someone meets someone from another country through the internet then they will learn about the country and the people from the country. This helps people not be so shallow and ignorant about others in the world and therefore broadens their social skills when meeting people in person from lets say that same country.
Another way e-mail is beneficial to us is lets say your at a party and meet someone you are interested in but don't want to give your number right away. Instead you can give your e-mail address. This way in case the man or woman is a jerk you can always block them or just delete their e-mails. On the other hand, if they end up being amazing people you didn't not get to know them because you didn't feel comfortable giving them your phone number. Once again it helps you not be closed minded but open to new people and ideas.
Through the internet you can meet people who you could eventually date that have the same common interests and hobbies as you. You can get to know the person through e-mail and talk freely and openly. Then when you trust and feel comfortable with the person you can slowly start talking on the phone and then eventually meet each other.
