Cloning Argument

A hot issue in the United States today is if cloning should be banned. Lots of research is done daily around the world in labs and also on university campuses. I am a male college student who is against cloning humans and animals. One vital reason the cloning is not good for our society is because of the extremely high medical costs that will occur with the decision of cloning. An estimate by Jim Thomas, from USA today said "What is certain is that parents of cloned children who have genetic defects will face high medical costs. Imprinting disorders that cause mental retardation and physical abnormalities carry medical costs of $1 million to $20 million over the lifetime." This is a fact that the average person does not realize.
Another reason that cloning is not good is because of the short life of the offspring. In which a study by the American Medical Association showed that for every 100 experiments only 1, 2 or if lucky, perhaps 3 appear to produce a viable offspring. Even then it's survival beyond the parental period is unlikely. These researched facts are vital when thinking about the effects cloning have on our society due to the fact that they appeal to experts. .
Although cloning has its positives, the negatives of this situation out-weigh the positives; therefore cloning should not be legal. Getting more and more people involved in writing congress leaders and politicians about the severity will really help with the ban of this more than likely deadly experiment. .
