This group includes some 30 million elderly retirees and their dependents, 6 million disabled workers and their dependents, and more than 7 million survivors of deceased workers (Social Security Act). Social Security Act was to provide for the material needs of individuals and families; to protect aged and disabled persons against the expenses of illnesses that may otherwise use up their savings; to keep families together; and to give children the chance to grow up healthy and secure. Yet, Social Security has worked well for sixty years, and there is no reason to believe that it is on the verge of bankruptcy. The truth is that Social Security has cover for a various programs people need such as Old Age, Survivor and Disability Insurance, or OASDI; Trust Funds are adequately financed for the next twenty to twenty -five years and can continue to pay benefits with any change in the current law through 2030. Privatization, however, should not be part of the debate because it would destroy a system that has worked well for decades and would force older Americans, survivors and disabled persons in future generation to live in poverty (Social Security Act). .
Older people work hard to save up their retirement in Social Security. When Social Security became privatize, they would lose all their money that was saved in Social Security. It will have a tremendous impact on the way they live and see the world. Social problems might arise from some elderly as they put forth their anger on the nation and the public. On the other hand, What if we keep it? We will run into a deficit. Therefore, government might find that to lower the deficit, they might tax us more, to finance Social Security. Then all of the working class will be furious, and they will go protest. One social security dependent citizen said, "Have everyone be responsible for their own savings for old age, and then nobody will have to worry.
