When seeing these pictures it makes me upset knowing that all research involving animals as subjects must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate board before it is conducted. It makes me sick knowing that a living human being can approve such things. What I don't understand is that most animal studies are a waste of time because the results may not even apply to humans. So why do it? .
why do we have to use animals for research?.
Most of the work carried out is for medical or veterinary purposes at home. At present the law says that all new drugs being developed to cure disease must be tested on animals before they can be used on humans. This is to check that they are safe and will have no serious side-effects. Anesthesia, pain killers and sedatives are also tested on animals before used on humans. Without pesticides developed with the aid of animal research Third World countries especially would suffer greater famine then they do now. .
How much do the animals really suffer?.
Why would anyone make hundreds or thousands of animals suffer? Nearly all of the scientists who do research on animals do it because they hope that making a few experience pain now will help prevent many from feeling pain later. In other words, they hope that a little pain now will prevent a lot of pain later. Psychologists claim that an animals brain and central nervous system are much less complex than a man's.
