Europa Europa

             Europa! Europa! vs.
In the movie Europa! Europa! and the book of Job there are similarities in their main themes. Just as Job overcame hardships the main character, Solly, a Jewish teenager also finds unheard of ways to escape adversity in the line of battle and keep his faith at the same time. In the movie Solly is forced to leave his parents because of the break out of war between the Germans and the Jews. Although Solly could easily give up faith he keeps on fighting doing things that are unheard of in the past times. To stay alive he wears a German uniform pretending to be one of the Nazis. He knew deep in his heart all that he needed was to keep his faith in God and nothing extremely bad would happen to him. .
In the book of Job he went through many times of adversity also. Job found ways to keep his faith in God even after all of his family had been killed and all of his personal belongings destroyed. There was never any time that Job questioned God so he just kept living hoping that God would take care of him as long as he remained faithful. .
I think that it is very evident that neither Job nor Solly deserve the situations in which they are put into. There are many situations in which Solly tries to retreat from the German army but only finds himself to become a German hero. Solly never wants to be part of the German army but still keeps faith in God. On the other hand Job receives no positives only negatives but through all the adversity he still keeps his faith just as Solly does.
