             1800- The election between Jefferson and Aaron Burr takes place. They tie, and Hamilton and Adams campaign for Jefferson, and he wins over Burr. Napoleon makes a deal with the King of Spain which gives the Louisiana Territory to France. .
             1801-Jefferson's inaugural address, March 4. Aaron Burr becomes vice President. The Barbary Pirates start looting American ships and the head of Tripoli government cuts down the flag of American Consulate which was a direct war suggestion. Jefferson works on a manual of parliamentary practice, which is published in 1801 and becomes the procedural handbook for the Senate. This year, the U.S. capital is moved from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. The Judiciary Act was created, and it made new judgeships that became filled with Federalist supporters.
             1802- Jefferson pardons those that were imprisoned for the Sedition Act. Also, this year he reduces the years from 14 to 5 years to become a U.S. citizen. He also does away with excise tax.
             1803- Judicial Review was created, where the Supreme Court could declare if laws were unconstitutional. At this time, the Constitution was the supreme law of the land. Jefferson sends Monroe to buy all land east of New Orleans. Napoleon, desperate for money, wants to sell all land east and west of New Orleans for 15 million. In late April, the Louisiana Purchase was finalized; the Senate approves the purchase and the size of U.S. is doubled for 3 cents an acre. .
             1804- Jefferson tries to impeach one of the Supreme Court justices - Samuel Chase. Jefferson reduces the number of men in the militia to 25,000. The expedition led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark departs, moving up the Missouri River. Burr challenges Hamilton to a duel. Alexander Hamilton dies after being shot in the duel at Weehawken, New Jersey. In the election of 1804, Jefferson wins with 162 electoral votes. Stephen Decatur rescues American seamen held in the Bay of Tripoli on their captured ship, the Philadelphia.
