The other agenda that he had behind naming Hamlet the king was that he wanted to secure his position as a king until his death. The nature of his advice however was not very pleasing for hamlet as the main idea of his advice was that hamlet should forget his father who he loved so dearly. Therefore, to Hamlet this advice was the worst thing he could hear from anybody specially his close relative, his uncle. The agenda of Claudius's advice that Shakespeare infers to his audience is that his advice is for his own betterment and he that he had his own motives and agendas behind the advice for the reason that he may rule over the state of Denmark with absolutely no problem.
             In those medieval times, middle class people feared the kings as they were usually people considered to be people having the most insincere intentions towards women. This is why the daughters and sisters of those times were kept under strict control to protect the family honour. That was the same case with Ophelia who was the daughter to Polonius and the sister to Laertes and the one who dared to love the crown king Hamlet and fall for his tenders of affection that he made to her. Laertes giving his advice to his sister warned her against Hamlet who was the future king . Laertes was worried about his sister because he thought that Hamlet was not sincere with her and that he was just using her on the basis of his position. This is why giving his advice he also said that, " Hold it a fashion, and toy in blood- (Act 1, scene iii, line 6). Laertes and Ophelia were very close to each other and through this advice of his it reveals that he was a very considerate brother who wanted the to see his sister happy . So he told her that even if Hamlet loved her he may not be able to fulfil the promises that he may have made to her he also said that, .
