Teacher Shortage

 

            Remember the days when there was that one special teacher you could always count on. Remember the times when that special teacher helped you with every assignment she possibly could instead of just the ones she had to help you with. I remember the times that I walked into the classroom to find my new teacher smiling excited and ready, not only to teach but, to learn from her students. Do you remember the times when parents and teachers got together and were not afraid to call each other? I remember those times, do you? Quite frankly I must say that it is a shame that we must remember those times. Why can't we live in those times again today, in the new millennium? .
             With the percentage of children that need up close and personal attention from great teachers, I know that many people may wonder why we must remember the times when we had loving, caring, certified, teachers. It is sad that the reason is because of teacher shortage. It is sad but it is true. In many parts of the United States there are teacher shortages. There are not enough teachers for many reasons. There are not a lot of good and certified teachers for similar reasons as well. According to Recruiting New Teachers, Inc. (RNT) which is a national non-profit organization based in Belmont, Massachusetts, in January 2000, there was an examination on the nation's major urban school districts and found that almost 100% have an urgent need for teachers. These teachers are needed in several different areas. Now, the birth rate is on the rise and the number of students that are in these specific areas that need and lack help will be on the rise. .
             This rise in the student population during a time of teacher shortage can only mean one thing. There will be a greater demand on good certified teachers. Student enrollment, which hit record highs this fall, is projected to continue to grow rapidly during the next ten years. According to the U.
