I am showing the world me, and who I am when I dance. Dancing is power and it gives a sense of life. .
When I came to Hong Kong, I searched for fellow hip-hop dancers to practice with. Long and behold I found many people that are interested in hip-hop, which gave me the exciting opportunity to get their insights on hip-hop dancing.
I did an observation of a Joint University Hip-Hop dance competition in Tsim Sha Tsui. I was there for 2 hours watching the entire competition. It was a big event with many local students attending and many dancers from local dance schools. The tickets were all sold out so the only people that were allowed in were the ones who got presale tickets. While sitting up on the upper seating I noticed that the seats filled quite fast. Many universities were present such as Baptist University, Chinese University, Science and Tech, HKIED, HKU, City University and some others. All the dance schools in Hong Kong took part in sponsoring the event with their names listed on the introduction flyer. I noticed everyone was chanting " UST!!" or "City U!!" to cheer on their own school team. I felt a lot of positive school spirit within the audience. The host for the night was a funny guy who introduced each school before they performed. Each university came on stage that was very professionally prepared. The stage had very good lighting. It created a great theater atmosphere for the hip-hop dancers. Each school would have a specific theme in music, costume and style of dance. It was great to see such positive and fierce competitors. Many schools danced hip-hop and some also incorporated jazz into their pieces to make it more dramatic. Each school had their own selection of music. Some schools chose American hip-hop songs, some chose canto pop, some mandarin and even Korean pop songs. Chinese University did a very nice hip-hop routine. Their lighting was kept a little dark and their uniforms had a glow.
