Hiphop Dancing

Each university that performed was given a great applause by the audience complimented with many shouts by fans. Poly University started their routine with jazz and ended it with hip-hop. Some other universities also used recent hip-hop songs by Missy Elliot and Ludicrous. I was impressed with the hip-hop dancer's stage presence, costume, lighting and props that were used. I found it to be very creative and enjoyable to the audience. City U's performance was creative too. Their hip-hop routine had a baseball theme with the guys dressed in baseball jerseys and the girls dressed in warm-up athletic wear. They did some locking routines to spice up the competition. Locking is a style of hip-hop dancing and City University was the only one to do that style at the competition. Baptist University used a modern dance routine and a hip-hop routine to compete with. At the end of the competition, the host asked all the universities and participants to come out on stage. All the teams walked onto the stage in their groups. I thought it was beautiful to see so many hip-hop dancers from universities all over Hong Kong sitting together, uniting. People were talking with each other, laughing and making new friends. Poly U and UST took home many awards, but UST won the grand prize this year. UST hip-hop dancers were so happy they jumped up and down non-stop. Every other school applauded in support of UST's great time. I saw that everyone there loved hip-hop dancing and were very positive in socializing with other schools. .
My interviewees were named Egg and Rock from the "Ones To Watch" dance school, Fanny from the BCDC (Billy Chan Dance Center) dance school. I thought it was very good to get teachers involved in the interviews because not only are they hip-hop dancers but they teach hip-hop dancing as well. Also teachers have their own reasons and some are more serious when talking about hip-hop dancing.
