Heroes

Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, and many other comic book heroes have become some of America's heroes, but what about the real heroes? They are the ones that embed themselves directly inside the souls and hearts of kids and adults alike. The one group that has done that for me are the New York City firefighters and police officers.
When terror struck the World Trade Center's Twin Towers, I was in complete horror and awe. I watched it on the news all day and night and all day the following day. The thing that I remember the most is not just the attacks themselves, but also the men and women of New York City's finest risking their lives to protect and even save the lives of so may others. Even after the attacks, they were out on the death-site of so many people hoping and trying to find other people who were in some miraculous way alive or consequently dead.
The reason that this memory from such an appalling incident is that it brought America back. If it weren't for the determination of these few men and women from the city that never sleeps, America may have been down a little, or even much, longer than we were. They helped lift the morale of so many New Yorkers and also so many, if not all, of America. They were mentioned in nearly all speeches and were often prayed for at churches and at special ceremonies.
They hold a special place in my heart because they provided me with the hope, courage, bravery, and guts to go beyond what I thought I could do, to do what I wanted, rather, needed to do for myself, my family, my country, and for my God. The mindset they gave me propelled me into a spinning swirl of blood, sweat, and tears. Whether the blood, sweat, and tears were for good or bad, I used them for a reason because I began standing up for what I believed in, even if I was alone on the issue. Though I may fight hard to attain the goal I am striving for, whether I obtain it or not, I feel like I am on top because I gave it my best shot.
