By reassuring your students that they can do well in your course opens up the door for constructive criticism. .
Although constructive criticism does not always have to come from a negative point of view, here you are able to tell them exactly what they must do to succeed. Start with a compliment or upbeat remark so that your advice or suggestions fit into a positive context. By knowing your student it is easy to approach a situation when there is need for constructive criticism.
If their organization skills are a problem you can give examples of what helps you stay organized, like using folders or a backpack. If you find that the student has a problem receiving criticism perhaps you can start off with praise and work everything else in a positive way.
