The same goes with plastic containers, glass bottles and the like. Recycling and care for the environment is more enforced in New York City than any other place I've ever been too. And it should be. It should be done everywhere, not just in the Capital of the Universe - New York City. New Yorkers do their part in civic responsibility by obeying these kinds of laws. Before I was a teen, this great city was implementing its new recycling laws. Being introduced to this concept at a young age, is probably why I take a such a stand on this issue.
Therefore, it is our responsibility as citizens to show more respect for the environment and to express more concerns for the environmental harm we are causing Mother Earth. Because we, who live in the United States, have a modern republic where the government is structured of, by and for the people, we have the responsibility of interacting with our government to bring about beneficial change. Our government must change with the rapidly changing times we live in.
Our government, especially our elected public officials, need to be made aware of our will, our opinions and our desires concerning the environment. We have the civic responsibility of bring about beneficial change in our government. .
Our government can be changed in a variety of ways. New laws can be enacted, with the sole purpose of protecting the environment. In a similar manner, new government officials can be elected, who will be more responsive to environmentalists. However, I"m not talking about becoming a full-fledged supporter of the Environmental Protection Agency - you don't need to go that far. But we can protest against the policies and actions of government officials who repeatedly disregard sound environmental thinking and engage in environmentally destructive and exploitive actions. A good example is the state of New Jersey, which is notorious for its improper disposal of toxic chemicals.
