             The purpose of this experiment is to calculate the earths magnetic field strength (M) and find a relationship between the magnetic field strength and the equipment used as well as the current. As well as this, the coil of wire that is used will be increased, to find a relationship between the number of turns of wire and the magnetic field strength. To calculate M, the idea used is that when the compass needle points to exactly 45 degrees from North, the magnetic field strength of the equipment must be equal to that of the earths. Then the formula B = ( ∏ x K x I x N ) r is used. This will calculate the earths magnetic field strength. A graph of Current versus tan ∂ values, will show the relationship between current and the magnetic field strength of the earth. .
             The second theory that the number of coils will affect the magnetic field strength will be tested by repeating the experiment, however increasing the number of coils each time, whilst leaving the current constant at 1A. A graph of number of coils versus tan ∂ will show the relationship between the two. .
             It was found that the earths field strength was 2.8254 x 10-5. Tan∂ and current were directly proportional to each other. It was also found that the current also had a direct relationship to the number of coils surrounding the magnetic field. .

             PART A.
             1. A tangent galvanometer was assembled as shown in diagram above.
             2. The polar graph paper was placed so that the 0o to 180o axis of the paper was lined up with vertical supports. .
             3. 5 coils of wire were wrapped around the compass sitting on the graph paper.
