             Background.
             Intercultural Communication.
The majority of all business dealings whether domestic or international, involve communicating with people of many different cultural backgrounds. "Intercultural communication skills are essential for businesspersons in today's market- (Cheney 90). The major barriers to successful intercultural communication are the differences in culture and language. With today's constantly changing national boundaries and interdependence, these barriers become more and more difficult to overcome. "When people have misunderstandings or commit errors' when working with persons from different cultures, they are often unaware that any problem exists. Therefore, there is a need for greater awareness of the impact of verbal and nonverbal behavior on international business communications, and if executives are to meet the challenges of an increasingly interdependent world, they will need to develop a better understanding of how cultural differences influence the operations of international business- (Dou 54). Culture can be defined as values, beliefs, ways of thinking, behavior, and customs that have been passed on from generation to generation. Culture is something that is learned, not inherited. Many aspects of culture lie within one's subconscious, which makes it even more complex for one outside that culture to understand.
