It's weird how when watching a cartoon movie you automatically presume that the movie is not going to include any violent messages, racial slurs or maybe even some type of totalitarian movement. But recently, I have analyzed a movie and was taken by surprise with the messages this movie was carrying out to the adolescent group. Who would have thought that a movie like Shrek would be able to carry out these horrible messages and make society believe that this movie is socially accepted? The violent messages in this film can be seen from the beginning of the movie. The racial slurs and the totalitarian messages are practices by king Farquaad himself. It is very shocking to see these types of messages being presented to our youth's minds.
We have all see or have heard of events that have taken place within our proximity that involve the use of authority violence, racism, or even some type of government take over. Abuse of Authority is a major issue right now especially within the police department. We have heard of the cases involving police officers profiling individuals strictly because of their race and also police officers taking people to prison because of who they are not because of what they did. Also, we keep seeing and hearing racial slurs being used daily by people around us. Racism has been around for a while now yet it is still in progress and is still one of the leading causes of violence in society today. Abuse of the authority and Racism are both big issues, but we also need to look into the way the government tries to take over our rights and our beliefs. .
While watching Shrek, I came to the conclusion that all these issues that take place in the real world, also take place in the adolescent movie world. The movie bombards the viewer with a whole scene of authority abuse, and showers the viewer with racial slurs given off by lord Farqaav. Also, while watching the movie, Lord Farquaav gives you a feeling of a totalitarian ruler, leading to the conclusion that people have no power or say.
