Information Interview

Doing this Information Interview raised a lot of questions in my mind. For Instance, which profession should I look into; which profession makes more money and which do I really want to go into. I finally came to the conclusion that I will go for my Bachelors in Psychology with a concentration in Social Work and then go for my Masters in Counseling. Making that decision helped me to find whom I need to interview first because I have two people; one from each profession. It was not hard for me to find someone for the social work department at all. My best friend's mother, Ms. Laura LeFever, is a social worker. Being around her on a regular basis for the past five years has really shown me the good parts and the bad parts about this profession. She helps me to see that this is not your regular nine to five job; most nights she brought work home with her. Seeing her do the job really help me to know if it was something I wanted to do.
The interview went very well. It had to be over the phone because she is a very busy woman. She currently works at The Children's" Center in Detroit Michigan, and just recently received a promotion. Her present title is Coordinator of Residential and Hospital Services. Even though she received this promotion she is still under the social work umbrella. She informed me that the education or training needed for this position is to be a certified Social worker, and having a concentration in Social work or having it as your major can really assist you in that. The experience needed is that in order to receive your Social Work certificate you have to work under a social worker (kind of like an internship). She suggested that I keep my major being psychology and just have a concentration in Social Work, and during my last year and a half in school have the university I am attending find me a social worker to work under so I can be certified by the time I graduate.
