Hamlet

In William Shakespeare's play, "Hamlet," tow of the main characters father's are viciously murdered. The first father to be murdered is King Hamlet, who's son Prince Hamlet is supposed to avenge the death of his father. Also in the play Laertes father, Polonius, was stabbed to death, like Hamlet, it is Laertes job to see that the man who murdered his father shall have the same done to him. Although both son's seek revenge on their father's murderer's they go about it in two different but still effective ways.
Hamlet's dilemma begins when the watchmen , Marcellus, Bernardo, and his good friend Horatio inform him that they have seen the ghost of his dead father. So Hamlet is startled and wants to see this for himself. So one night Hamlet goes with the watchmen and sure enough the ghost of Hamlet's father again appears to them. The ghost explains to him exactly how he died. He reveals to his son that his own brother, Claudius, is responsible for his death, and now Hamlet must kill his uncle to avenge his father's death. Claudius is also now not only his uncle but has now married his mother, Gertrude, and has also took over his father's throne as king of Denmark. Hamlet agrees with his father and will avenge his father's death although it being in a very non- chalant way. For example Hamlet doesnt want to come out and blatently tell King Claudius that he know's he killed his father and now he shall die for two reasons. The first being , Claudius is the King of Denmark and if Hamlet states that he must now kill the king , people in the country will think he's gone mad or maybe even worse kill the him for treason. This is why he makes Marcellus, Bernardo, and Horatio swear secrecy concerning what they heard that night King Hamlet's ghost appeared to all of them and explained what happened. Another reason why he is so passive about it is because he want's to be absolutely sure for himself and the people who know about what his father had told him, that Claudius did in fact kill his father.
