Getting out of his bed he slips into his boxers, rolls on his deodorant puts on clean cloths, his watch, wallet, and necklace because he feels almost naked without these items. Shuffling upstairs he gulps from the O.J. carton and doesn't eat because he thinks he is fat enough. He puts on his plain jacket because he learned from one of his friends, Todd, that he didn't need to purchase expensive items just for the logo name to be cool. He puts on his bag full of books and heads out to the bus stop.
While awaiting the bus he is approached by some kid who offers him weed. He told him straight out that he doesn't want any, because his good friend, Chris, told him to be himself and try not to impress other people and he will have better friends. .
He gets to school and puts on a smile to walk through the halls. He hears "Your Mama" left and right but still he holds his head up high because he knows there are others who face the same problems. Like his friend Chrissy who told him they are special and not just unlucky. .
He goes to study and writes poetry flowing like electricity through a coil. His teacher told him to honor his Creator and ignore the editor. .
In the halls he makes a playful remark to his friend Phil making sure to exaggerate, "You bloody bastard," since Phil is British. Phil doesn't think he knows himself, but in reality he does. Phil is a great friend, but unlike the other people, he is going to be here next year. .
Walking down the hall listening to Catch 22, he thinks of his friend Jon who is off to college. He wonders if Jon is having a great time.
All these people Todd, Chris, Chrissy, Phyll, and Jon have given him a wonderful present of friendship, but inside that present there is another which helped him find himself.
