Censorship

There needs to be tougher regulations to censor the internet so we can protect our children from the information that could put themselves or others in danger. There have been many news stories from around the nation that have reported that children were lured by adult sexual predators pretending to be someone else, someone younger. Another form of danger that children can encounter on the internet is downloading pornographic pictures or scenes. Each experience can be very traumatic to a child because of the many dangers it imposes. As a concerned adult, we cannot take the safety of our children lightly. We need to protect our children at all cost.
Opponents of internet censorship have many valid complaints on why there should be no censorship. They say that we need to educate our children about internet safety (Katz 363.) The next argument that our opponents make is that it is very difficult to find harmful materials such as pornographic pictures, or to have an encounter with a sexual predator on the internet (Burton 374-375.) Finally, opponents are saying that there are many questions involved in who and what can we censor (Willard 407.).
By educating children about internet safety we do not take away any of their freedoms and we continue to view them as rational human beings (Katz 363.) They feel that by censoring the things that children see on the internet, they are putting cultural blinders on them, which interrupts their learning process (Katz 363.) Parents who censor what their children see on the internet are preparing them for a world that no longer exists, and by doing this they are stopping them from meeting their responsibilities (Katz 364.) .
The next argument that our opponents make is that it is very difficult to find harmful materials such as pornographic pictures, or to have an encounter with a sexual predator on the internet (Burton 374-375.) This in fact is true; it is difficult to find sexual content on the internet (Katz 375.
