             Comfrey or (Blackwort).
             This was used a lot at our home as we kept horses. We used this plant to help heal sprains and stretched tendons; we also used this on our horses leg injuries. Many people from other villages heard what we were using and came to find out what we were using and came to find out what we were doing. It saved many horses from being destroyed. Horses with leg injuries to their legs were of no use. Comfrey grows in moist areas. The stem is hairy and the leaves resemble a tongue. It grows about two feet tall and has purplish white flowers. The root is black on the outside on the outside and white on the inside. For lung congestion the root is boiled and mashed and then applied to the chest. For sprains and stretched ligaments and tendons just apply the leaves and wrap. Change this twice a day for two weeks. The root can be boiled. Approximately 1Tsp/1cup drank while warm for such problems as ulcers and coughs. Drink one cup two or three times/ day. This plant is to be picked early in the spring or late in the fall. (Lust. 1974) .
             Colts Foot (Cough Wort).
             The parts used were the leaves and the flowers. Found around low areas where there is water or near streams. This plant likes limey soil. It has downy white scales topped by yellow flowers (resembles dandelions). It is used for dry coughs, hoarseness, and bronchitis. The leaves are and smoked.
