In my opinion, I think that marijuana should be legal because if people sold weed in their stores, weed smokers would buy it, and it could be a good attempt to boost the economy. I also think some drug crimes and innocent killings would go down an enormous amount. .
Almost every American in today's society has used marijuana at some point in his/her life. Marijuana use is one of America's largest drug problems today. Our nation has been fighting the war on drugs since the 1960's; however, people still continue to import and use marijuana frequently. It has been said that in order to greatly reduce the use of marijuana in America, it should by legalized. Legalization would allow the government to control marijuana imports and this would in turn reduce the amount of marijuana bought illegally.
Legalization of marijuana would allow the government to regulate it in the same manor as it does alcohol and tobacco. An age requirement of twenty-one should then be put on those who wish to purchase marijuana. There would be a limit on how much marijuana a single person could have concealed on him/her at one time. If marijuana were legalized the government could then heavily tax the sale of marijuana and use the extra money to improve drug rehabilitation programs for people who have uncontrollable drug problems with more dangerous drugs such as heroin and cocaine and provide money for the continuous study on harmful drug usage.
The legalization of marijuana will also lead to a drop in drug related crimes. There will be fewer people in jail for smuggling marijuana from other countries, and fewer people will be killed in the illegal trade of marijuana that continues to proceed under the law enforcement of our government. The drug lords that import marijuana in large quantities and sell it to make a tremendous profit will be put out of business. Therefore, there would be no reason for people to break the law by selling and buying marijuana when the government offers it to them in a safe, controlled manner.
