Perspective On The Role Assessment

Discuss your perspective on the role assessment plays in developing effective instruction. What type(s) of assessment do you find most useful?.
When teachers analyze the results of students assessments, teachers should be able to identify those areas of knowledge and skills that students mastered and those that need more work. If only a few students scored poorly on a given knowledge, skill, communication, application, or transfer area, you can group and re teach them and/or offer assignments to help them master those standards. You can also disaggregate (pull apart) your results to see whether, for example, boys performed better than girls, only students who had previous experience (e.g., computers in the home) did well, and so forth.
As higher educators plan and implement strategies to assess the quality of their programs, they will face no more important decision than choosing which method(s) to utilize for measuring each objective. Whether the goal is to assess an objective in basic skills, general education, the major, career preparation, or student personal growth and development, one overriding truism will apply: good methodological choices will produce results useful for program enhancement, and poor methodological choices will be detrimental to that process.
