Reparations

There are many mixed attitudes in the case for reparations between whites and blacks ranging from agreement to total opposition. Ogletree believes that there should be a trust fund set up where only those who bring claims will be able to receive compensation. This article is clearly written to get more support for reparations from those who matter. Sure, many black people know about reparations; however, many whites do not know the facts and because of this they have the wrong impression. .
Reparations become a tricky argument for anybody to debate. Ogletree goes on to state that African Americans were not the only ones to be oppressed. Irish, Mexicans, Italians, and Native Americans have all been exploited throughout our history. However, only African Americans had the laws that forced them to be demoralized. This argument is very compelling and presents many good points. The only problem is that the article is extremely one sided because it only gives the authors opinions which are clearly pro-reparations. By reading this article, the reader is persuaded to join the author in his beliefs. He also proves that forty acres and a mule were given and then taken away soon after. The one point that I do not think is proven is the number of blacks and whites that want reparations or not. The fact is that there are many blacks and whites that do not want reparations. However, the author makes is sound like all blacks are in favor. In general, the author argues this case very well in terms of explaining exactly what the article is about as well as using the information correctly.
Biased is a word that best describes this author. There are many things that I agree and disagree with about reparations. The government should have given an apology long ago about slavery. This, however, cannot be brought up now in the early 21st century. No present government officials were around 250 years ago.
