Alternative Transportation .
The first possible solution for semi-trucks on roadways would be to use alternative modes of transportation. The sole purpose of semi-trucks is to transport large amounts of something from one point to another. Although semi-trucks are very large compared to other vehicles on the road, they are not large enough to transport most of the shipments that are needed. So, companies use multiple trucks to transport one large order, which only produces more semi-trucks on the road. Using alternative modes of transportation, such as trains, would eliminate the need for so many semi-trucks. Trains can carry multiple large shipments at a time. Since trains do not need to stop as much as semi-trucks, shipments will arrive faster than they would by road. By building many various train stations in local areas, smaller forms of trucks could load the shipments then transport them to their company nearby. The trains would dramatically reduce the concentration of semi-trucks on roadways, but there could be some possible drawbacks to this solution.
Because of the increase of train usage, there is a possibility in the rise of train related accidents on roadways. Another drawback would be expense. There would need to be a great deal of money available to make more train stations, new tracks, and old track repair.
Alternative Routes.
A second possible solution for semi-truck accidents on roadways would be to have specialized routes for semi-trucks to use. Semi-trucks cause the most problems, off the highway, in more residential areas. They delay traffic by moving slow and blocking intersections. Making alternative routes for semi-trucks to use would greatly reduce this problem. Instead of semi-trucks taking the same exit as everyone else, when they have to get off the highway, they could take a second exit that would lead truckers to an alternative route. This route would go thru the same areas as the other roads but would be strictly for semi-truck use only.
