Definition of Work

Over the last couple of weeks our class have been pondering on the definition of "work". In our society it has been the focal point of many lives for many generations. We are so common with the term, however when it comes to define it we struggle. For work is no longer laboring vigorously on a farm all day, it can be just sitting at a desk and using your brains. This locution is so broad and covers so many categories. However, if I was to put the word "work" into a box and define it, this is what it would be. Using your skills and talents to provide a service for paid or unpaid rewards. It can be a physical or mental effort, which can build new relationships, teach you about life, and also give you an opportunity to serve.
This definition of "work" includes people who do labor in the fields or perform strenuous tasks in their job. It also covers the average person these days that work in an office, or work from home, or even a student at school or university. This also includes work at home, for example general chores like cleaning the dishes, vacuuming, washing your car or even hanging out the washing. Last of all, but certainly not least, is the people with the servant hearts who put into the community with out receiving an income. For example the people that visit the elderly, perform tasks for the government, make meals for the sick, and many other duties that are sometimes excluded from the definition of "work". .
The only category that is omitted from my definition of "work" are those people that live off Unemployment benefits and all they do all day is sit on their bums and watch TV, or drink. However, I am not excluding the people, who actually work for their Unemployment benefits, these people have proven that if they can"t get a job with their qualifications they will still work and put their fair share into the community. A quote that I have read recently backs up what I believe.
