In recent years, the Internet has become widely used as one of the main sources of research based exploration. It has been an abundant resource for a plentitude of valid information. However, many of the resources available on-line also contain erroneous or biased information. It has become necessary to develop the skill of deciphering between which web-sites are valid or biased. In this process, it is essential to identify the origin of the web page with which one is working. .
             This can be done by examining the URL address. Those which contain edu are sponsored by a university. The addresses containing gov are sponsored by government institutions. On the other hand, those containing org, com, or net tend to come from private or individual organizations, and have the highest probability of supplying false or biased information. This would automatically render any research completed on these sites ineffective. Below are three websites, one form each of the above categories. Each website has been analyzed in order to determine it's accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency and coverage. .

             This first website assesses the conditions of Amercian Civil War battlefields. This page is sponsored by the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) at the University of Arkansas, which conducted and completed a joint effort with the National Parks Service to assess the present conditions of ninety-eight Civil War battlefields in thirteen states. It provides a detailed explanation of how this assessment was conducted, written by Joe Bellas in an article entitled, "The American Battlefield Protection Plan". Although the author's credentials are not delineated, there are several links that provide information about various Civil War related projects, as well as an e-mail address provided for contact purposes, allowing the user to further research this source.
