1. Vanilla Sky
While they are driving she reveals her love for him and explains how much it hurt her that he referred to her as his "fuck buddy". She goes into a rage and drives carelessly as if she were trying to kill them by crashing the car. She does end up driving the car off of a bridge and crashing. Julie dies and David is severely hurt and damaged. After he gets out of a coma and his broken bones heal he is released, but his face is deranged and unfortunately awful looking. This leads him to a low point in his life of severe depression. As he consistently spirals downward his infatuation for Sophia grows more intense, and his fear of her not wanting him because of his new face kills him. Overtime, he gains up enough confidence to meet her at her dance studio and ask her out on a date. She kindly agreed, but because of his frightening appearance and new and awkward personality, she asks David's best friend to accompany her to the club. She distances herself from him, and because of this his hurt drives him to drink in excess and he ends the night passed out on a cold and wet street. .
Little did he know, this is a major turning point that will change his life significantly. It is at this moment in time that he signs a contract to L.E., Life Extension. This company offers packages such as the "lucid dream", which is a contract stating that when he dies he is frozen in time and lives a life of his choice. In this lucid dream he gets Sophia back and lives a dream life with her where they are in love and she is his savior. His psychiatrist is his father figure. Him walking down a street with Sophia represents an old album cover from his childhood. Soon enough it is revealed that his entire time spent in the lucid dream root from things from his past. This represents his underlying desires and emotions. This can be related to Freud's theory of the subconscious. Everything missing in David's life comes through in some way in his lucid dream.
