Is It Immoral to Discriminate Against Homosexuals?

It is not uncommon to hear of men or women divorcing their partner because they realized a certain self-truth (Marcus, 85). More problems can arise if the couples already have children. This leaves room for stepparents and custody battles. Almost in all cases, the Judge will grant custody to the heterosexual parent (Golombock,167). These changes are often hard to accept and deal with. .
             There is a bias present in the courtroom. The Judge usually deems that the parent's homosexual orientation would be "harmful" to the child. Boy's may lose their masculinity and become gay, and girls would become tomboys and become lesbians. No one knows this for sure as there aren't any studies concluding to that theory. Homosexuality is hardly harmful if that is what they are trying to prevent. Many children grow up today with homosexual parents and aren't harmed by their sexual orientation. They develop the same as any other child in a loving atmosphere (Golombock,170). The homosexual parent's life may become harder again as he or she doesn't have the same rights to their child. If the other parent is hurt and upset about the divorce, he or she (the homosexual parent) may be denied exposure to their child. The other parent may brainwash or manipulate the child to hate the homosexual parent; many accounts can take place.
             There is a parallel situation to the last mentioned. Not all gays and lesbians branched off from a heterosexual marriage and not all with children. There are some who fight to be able to adopt to have a family. The state adoption law requires that the child's best interest is the paramount concern and the details may vary from judge to judge. As I said earlier, there is still a biased opinion found in the courtrooms today, the same bias found among the general population for the most part. For that reason child custody has been repeatedly denied to gays and lesbians with a variety or arguments given as an excuse.
