Legalizing Same Sex Marriages

Same sex marriages is one of the corner stones of equality that the lesbian, gay, and bisexual community is fighting for these days. Despite mass public same sex wedding ceremonies, families living as married couples, sometimes with children, and outspoken advocates for the equal right to marry, the law hasn't changed as of yet. Same sex marriages are still prohibited in most countries of the world. Even those which do allow legal same sex marriages restrict the couples' right to have or adopt children. However, public opinion is slowly being swayed. More and more people are starting to realize that there are far more important things to worry about in life than two dykes who want to get married and enjoy the same legal benefits and responsibilities that married heterosexual couples have. Despite this change in the air, there is still a strong undercurrent determined to prevent same sex marriages from ever taking place. .
We all know about the "good, old fashioned, God fearing people" who see it as their Christian duty to oppose the legalization of same sex marriages. They claim that if gay men and lesbians are allowed to be married, their constitutional rights will be violated as homosexuality is a sin in their religion. As long as they have the money to line the politicians' pockets, they will probably continue to prevail, at least for now. However, the movement has one very important factor working on our side that they do not have. We have the law on our side. Yea, I know. You're thinking "Now, how can that be? You just said that same sex marriages are not legal in most countries in the world. So, how can you now say that we have the law on our side?" That is one of the easier questions about this complex issue to answer! .
In the USA and Canada, all citizens are given equal rights by the very documents that make these countries what they are. Both countries also have what the sometimes seems to be more of a cruel joke than reality, a separation of church and state.
