Teenage Depression

The effects of this type of depression generally are not present for a long duration of time. The teen may suffer anywhere from a few days to a few months. Some of the causes to this type of depression are: break-ups, loss of job, or a sudden failure in school. These types of changes in a teen's everyday life can leave them feeling confused and worthless. They are unsure of where they truly fit in when they lose a friendship with a peer. This form of depression lucky does not last very long.
             The next form taken on by this illness is called major depression. In this type there are more symptoms present than in minor depression. This type can be present for much longer periods of time than minor depression. Major depression is generally brought on by some type of drastic change in the teens everyday life. One major cause for major depression in teens is a sudden traumatic death of a relative or a close friend. The sudden separation is devastating and sometimes almost unbearable for a teen to endure. Another cause is the divorce of the teen's parents. In many, if not all cases, a teen's everyday life becomes changed in almost every aspect. Their everyday schedule that once was, is now being bombarded with a whole different life style or situation. Some teens may even be forced to take on parental roles in the household and given extra duties. In many cases the new roles limit the time that the teen has for him/herself. Teens are going through an overwhelming amount of changes and an outlet or something the teen really enjoys helps them to relieve stress and keep a clear head.
             The last and most severe form is manic depression. This type of depression is hereditary and past down from parents. A person who deals with manic depression is generally in for a life long battle. However, the good news is that medicine, such as lithium, can help to alter these individual's mood states. Dealing with manic depression is in some cases like having multiple personalities.
