Facets of Art

            Art reflects the individual artist's personality and purpose. Some artists will use it to portray their ideals, while others use it to achieve worldly success. Art does not have one true definition, but rather is defined by the artist and its audience. Art can not be limited to a textbook definition. Its meaning differs based on various perspectives. However, there are many factors that contribute to its meaning. Expression, entertainment, and education are three facets that give art its meaning. .
             Art is a means for the artist to express him or herself. Through it the artist can unashamedly and completely express their feelings. Artists can use their work to express ideas or to convey thoughts. Through a painting an artist can begin to release his/her inner man. They begin to totally express everything that makes them who they are. Artists typically do not enjoy doing work that does not directly reflect them. They give their best work when they are able to go in and just paint what they feel. Georgia O"keeffe did not enjoy her paintings when she was doing what others had told her to do, but when she began to just do what she felt like doing it opened up a new realm for her. She found much more happiness in her work because it was expressing her. Art is an extension of oneself. It is more than just what the audience is looking at, but it is also what the painter is drawing. Sometimes an onlooker can look at a piece of art and see themselves expressed in it. A painter can express what somebody else feels without knowing it. The fact that two people can look at the same piece of art and get two different things out of it is just one of the many beauties of art. Each piece of art has its own meaning to each individual person. Art expresses a certain aspect of a person's life, and that is why art is so unique.
             Art can also be defined as a form of entertainment. Entertainment can be described in many different ways.
