The poem is one that almost anyone can compare with. The poem begins with "Two roads in a yellow wood" which represents two choices in life. The poet is faced with the reality that even though he may want to take both paths, in life, you can only take one path.
As he stands in front of the two paths he is thinking, and deciding what would happen down one road. He debates the choices that he will make as he stands alone examining both paths contents. The poet goes on to say, "Then took the other, as just as fair". It's almost like he is setting a goal for himself by choosing the less traveled path. He welcomes a challenge. He sees that the path "was grassy and wanted wear" and knows that it will not be easy. Similar to the choices you make in life, not matter what you chose, you are always going to have to pass something.
The poet comments on how he "kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way,". He is recognizing that the more traveled path was probably easier to travel and that the smarter decision would have been to take it. But, even though he recognizes these things, he seems happy and content with the choices that he has made. .
The poet mentions that he "shall be telling this with a sigh," .He is showing that with age comes knowledge and that he might be regretful of his decision. But, in the end he states, "I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference". Because he took the less traveled path, he learnt the most from the obstacles he went through on the path in his life.
