Spring Fun

We had just finished eating and were off playing hide and go seek. Little did we know, some of us would never find ourselves again.
After the explosion, everything else seemed to be muted, like I had been thrown into a closed trash can with a large firecracker. Dazed and confused, I tried to squash the pain and ringing in my head. Unable to do so, I ran home stumbling like a blind man with one leg, a weak knee, and no crutches. I made it only a few steps when I collided with a small mountain. The man seemed to think of me no more as a shadow as he continued to chase his courage out of town. Trying to get a bearing, I sat up and noticed that not only the ground was shaking, but everyone was running and staring into the sky. .
A gate to the depths had opened in the sky above the center of town. One enormous ball of fire was at the root of a vast plume of smoke. Regaining my balance, I continued my run home. As I approached my home, the condition of the buildings began to worsen. Newly built structures were in shambles, and somewhere along the way dirt had filled the air. My lungs and legs ached for a gasp of clean air. Finally, I rounded the corner of yet another leveled building and saw what has haunted my dreams to this day. I could see the other side of town, and in between was a view that made me terribly sorry that my sight had not been temporarily taken away along with my hearing. .
The valley was filled with a solid layer of debris. The devil had unleashed its fury without prejudice. Men, women, children, pets, and homes were all in about the same condition. Tattered bodies and limbs lay under piles of wood, dirt, dust, and rock. As if my emotions had shut down, I made my way to where my home once stood. Like the others, it no longer had one brick connected to another. What it did have was a pair of bloody legs under a mass of debris. Fearing the worst, the shock must have caught up with me.
