Adolescence

She is a rebellious young woman trying to find her way in the adult world that surrounds her. Her blonde hair is cut in a short and saucy way that she thinks makes her look at least eighteen years old. Bright blue metallic powder thickly covers the lids of her hazel eyes. Her tightly closed lips are brightly outlined and colored fuchsia. Skintight jeans are hugging her hips and her midriff is bare. She is hoping for the taboo navel piercing that will give her status among her know it all peers.
She is sunk deep into the dark green cushions of the living room couch hugging a fringed pillow to her chest, swallowed up within her own reclusive thoughts. Thoughts of how she can next escape from the prison of home that she dwells in are running through her mind. She is remembering the last crackling bonfire she sat next to with the "In-Crowd" that she hangs out with, and the thrill of swallowing the forbidden and intoxicating alcohol that their older capable friend has supplied for them. Her strongest desire is obtaining the required older and forbidden boyfriend. She is wondering how she will manage to keep him as a secret from her prying mother. In the background of her thoughts she hears the large silver television singing the latest thrashing "Metallica" song, helping to drown out the boring, monotonous existence she believes surrounds her life at the moment. .
Her rambunctious twin siblings are screaming and running wildly around in front of her, making dizzy circles, asking her in their own babyish ways for her undivided attention. All of her family members are in the adjoining room busy with daily life tasks. Her older siblings are sitting in companionship at the worn dining room table, doing their required homework. Her mother is busy cooking the large meal that will satisfy all of their nightly hungers. The older woman invades the younger woman's private world and asks, "Will you help me?" With her eyes still glued to the all-consuming television she reluctantly looks up, gazes at her mother with a deaf and dumb look and answers, "Do I haaaaave toooooo?" in a whining, grating voice.
