American Society

Working in a line of work like mine, the way you interact with people can mean the difference between a lot of money or slim to none. It has made my view of the world take a complete 180. Our society is slowly going downhill, no longer do people care about others, and it is now all about what they can do to help themselves.
My job actually seems really easy on paper, yet after my first week I knew it would not be like the cakewalk that it seemed to be. My job title is a valet, now at first glance I assumed that I would love this job. Yet the more I work, the more it makes me regret quitting my old job. At work my job is actually a collection of several jobs. They include being a valet, washing customer's cars, emptying the technician's garbage, and any other odd job that is requested from one of my many bosses. It has become very overwhelming at times and tends to stress me out. My biggest gripe is that of customer interaction. It just so happens that I work at a luxury car dealership, many customers tend to believe that they are better than everyone else simply based on the fact they have more money. I would say that for the majority of the eight hours that I am there it is washing customer's cars. It also happens to be a courtesy car wash meaning it's free! Most customers take advantage of it and often make ridiculous requests. There can be a line of 30 cars waiting for a wash, and customers will ask for their cars to be vacuumed and clean their windows. I have also been requested to rewash a car simply because a few bugs were left on their bumper! These are the same people also tend to not tip. Now I"m not saying that every car or job we do that we should be tipped, but it was gotten to the point where on any given day we wash about hundred or so cars and only have about thirty bucks in tips. I was also surprised by how the customers who do tip often make comments about how those that don't upset them.
