History

"The value of history is indeed not scientific, but moral: by liberalizing the mind, by deepening the sympathies, by fortifying the will, it enables us to control, not society but ourselves. it prepares us to live more humanely in the present. and to meet the future." -Carl Becker.
The tempos of today are consistently fast, the beats just keep speeding up. Fast food, fast cars, and fast lives are all general themes. While the public searches for quick fixes they refuse to take the time to learn by experience. Thus, the temptation to follow formulated blueprints are generic. For example, virtues of Christianity are characterized by patience and faith in the mysterious works of God. However, the wildly popular book, "The Prayer of Jabez," has a formula for prayer, saying that if you pray a certain way, God will bless you with what you desire. While these easy-to-do solutions are handy, they cannot be applied to history.
History is a stock of individual accounts that can be experienced by the masses or exclusively. As science searches for their respective truths, history is our own truth. Often listed in a series of facts and events, history is much more about humanity than it is about the physical world. One must remember that the accounts recorded in texts came from the experiences of people, that someone actually made history. Also acknowledge that existence itself is history in the making, that the actions we do now will have consequences in the future. The key to history is to use to our advantage with future instances, learn from past personal experiences or even the influences of historical figures. However, with this knowledge one must have wisdom. Since most history is experienced second hand for students, one must recognize the source by realizing different perspectives which is fundamental to understanding history. While each testimony comes from a different perspective, one must succeed in molding the facts into a personal, not impressionable, opinion.
